Challenge your understanding of Development: A women’s insight

Arpita Raksit worked in Baliapal, Orissa as an Indicorps Fellow from August 2010 till July 2011.

Indicorps runs a one to two year intensive, grassroots fellowship programme, challenging the Indian Diaspora to reconnect to India through hands-on development projects. Indicorps is a partner organisation of Manav Sadhna and Connect India.

“Before I went to India, my belief was of income as a measurement of well-being and in turn social upliftment. My journey with the women I worked with showed me that the key to development is not just GDP, but equality and social empowerment. Microfinance is no use if it results in the socio-economic violence on women. Join me and my journey of service.“
