Waiting for the right opportunity to make a difference in the world? Take the first step and start your journey now!
Connect India offers a unique opportunity for exceptional young people (aged 18-35 years) of Indian origin. Learning Journey is an 18 day programme in India, designed to make you question your assumptions, explore your values, connect to your roots and live what you believe, forging authentic friendships along the way.
Learning Journey is ideal for open minded individuals who have a willingness to understand development in India, often through conflicting lenses, and a curiosity to understand their own identity.
The exploration begins in Gujarat and continues through West and North India to Uttarakhand. Participants engage with diverse organisations and indigenous communities at every step. They grapple with complex social issues, engage in dialogue with leaders across India and understand how change can happen. The programme provides a strong platform to explore some of the vital issues of our time, including, youth development, social enterprise, agriculture, migration and education.
Learning Journey draws on its three key pillars throughout the process: leadership, identity and service. This, together with the ability to interact daily with those creating modern India, enables participants to engage with diverse perspectives and to understand themselves in the process. Time will be split between group immersion, guided workshops and reflections and individual mentoring. Each interactive session has been creatively designed by experienced facilitators to deepen and challenge the participants’ understanding of what they observe, how they interpret and why they act. Pre and post-programme workshops provide a framework for participants to develop their own projects within their communities and continue to build on their experience in India. Applying for a Bursary
Connect India is inspired by and believes in a simple yet powerful thought; the world we live in tomorrow will be shaped by the young people of today, their values, their belief systems and their outlook.
We began with the aspiration to create opportunities for young people of Indian origin to deepen their understanding of who they are and realise their potential to make a difference in the world. As a result, we are able to offer a bursary in specific circumstances, as we believe in making this programme affordable and accessible to young people from different backgrounds. This has been made possible by the generosity of individuals who believe in this programme and have contributed towards a bursary. If you would like to apply for bursary please fill in the bursary section on the application form.
Furthermore, if you are inspired to help others, you can contribute towards future bursaries through our Just Giving page.
Please feel free to get in touch if you have any questions or would like to speak with a past participant at firstname.lastname@example.org
“You should never be afraid to do something different just because it is different. If you have enough conviction and determination, you will succeed. Experiencing different cultures and ways of living, helped me gain perspective.”
Neeral, Learning Journey participant 2007
Learning Journey 2010 allowed me to meet inspirational individuals, find out more about innovative organisations and appreciate the lifestyle of families living in the village. The process inspired me to apply for a role on the National Hindu Students Forum (NHSF) and as a member of the Sewa team I can stay connected to the organisations from the India visit. Connect India has not only allowed me to learn more about NGO's in India, but it has also enabled me to learn more about myself!
